Match the solution to the actual problem
Should You Restore or Replace Your Headlights?
Exterior restoration may be reasonable when haze, yellowing, or weathering on a suitable outer lens is the main problem.
Another repair or a replacement assembly may be more appropriate when the condition involves internal moisture, cracks, broken structure, failed seals, damaged mounts, electrical faults, internal optics, or another problem outside the exterior surface.
The right choice follows the actual condition—not a rule that restoration or replacement is always better.
Three possible paths
Exterior restoration
Restoration may deserve consideration when:
- the main deterioration is on a suitable exterior polycarbonate surface;
- haze, yellowing, or surface weathering is the primary visible issue;
- the lens and assembly do not show obvious cracks, broken material, internal water, or structural damage;
- previous work has not left the surface too damaged or unpredictable;
- inspection finds a reasonable path to improve transparency, appearance, and light passage through the treated surface.
Tucson Headlight Restoration may decline work when the exterior surface is unsuitable or when the actual problem lies elsewhere.
See how the exterior service worksAnother repair
A separate repair path may make more sense when a specific component or system is involved, such as:
- a bulb, wiring, connector, flicker, or control problem;
- a seal, vent, leak, or internal-moisture concern;
- aiming, beam behavior, reflector, projector, or another internal optical issue;
- a damaged tab, mount, connector, or housing that needs a separate evaluation.
Tucson Headlight Restoration does not perform electrical repair, bulb replacement, internal-moisture repair, seal repair, aiming, or assembly disassembly.
Replacement
Replacement may deserve consideration when the complete assembly is:
- cracked, broken, or structurally damaged;
- internally burned, heavily contaminated, or affected by layered damage beyond the treatable exterior surface;
- missing or damaged in a way that exterior work cannot correct;
- affected by an electrical, optical, housing, mount, or system problem that makes the complete assembly unsuitable.
A crack-like pattern does not automatically prove that replacement is required. Crazing, scratches, coating failure, delamination, and fractures can resemble one another, so inspection still matters.
Compare exterior, internal, and structural signsExterior restoration is not a new assembly
The service treats the outside lens surface. It does not repair or replace:
- the housing, seals, vents, mounts, tabs, or structural parts;
- bulbs, wiring, connectors, controls, aiming, or programming;
- reflectors, projectors, internal lenses, or the complete assembly.
Exterior restoration is not a new complete assembly and does not guarantee how the entire headlamp system will perform.
Compare real options, not generic prices
There is no reliable universal statement that restoration is always cheaper or replacement is always better. A useful comparison includes:
- the exact restoration quote for the actual lens condition;
- the current price and availability of the correct repair or replacement option;
- installation, aiming, programming, or other labor when relevant;
- the condition of the housing, seals, mounts, optics, and electrical system;
- the risk of paying for exterior work when the actual problem is elsewhere;
- the value of preserving a suitable assembly when replacement is unnecessary.
Preserving a suitable assembly can avoid unnecessary replacement, but that is not a reason to restore a broken or internally damaged unit.
Tucson Headlight Restoration does not publish generic replacement prices and does not sell or install replacement assemblies.
The practical decision
Choose restoration when inspection confirms a suitable exterior-lens problem and the rest of the assembly does not need another solution.
Choose another repair when the problem is specific to a component, seal, electrical system, aiming, housing, or internal optical function.
Consider replacement when the assembly is broken, structurally unsuitable, internally damaged, or otherwise beyond reasonable exterior treatment.
